The Simple Life: Little Thoughts Group Creates a Wooden Family of Rocking Animals For Kids

We are far from the days where toy makers would clunk together chunks of finely carve wood to create toys for kids, but classic craftsmanship never truly dies out. Singapore-based designer Chan Wai Lim of Little Thoughts Group, took inspiration from her own childhood, a simple life in the 70’s where she grew up on a farm and played with objects handmade out of wood, to design a family of kid’s rocking animals.

To celebrate this concept of a simple childhood, Lim created Icons of Sembawang, a team of playful outdoor rocking animals crafted of wood. The rocking chairs are made of sustainable Heveatech wood, which is weather resistant, termite resistant, and extremely durable, making them perfect for outdoor use.

Even though the design of the rocking animals are simple and minimalist, their competitive spirit shines through with the help of their branded racing number and wind-up hardware. The rocking family is comprised of a pig, dog and kitty, each with adorable characteristics, such as a button nose, curly tail, and multicolored wood patches.

These toys were not created in a factory. Each animal was hand-sculpted, made with thought and love. Toys with heart, perhaps.
