Zecc Architects brought a new meaning to this old world cathedral in the Netherlands by remodeling the church into a home. The home has two living rooms, a hobby room, a study, a bar, full kitchen, sleeping quarters for residents and guests, and an elevator. Zecc had a few things to say about the renovation;
“Since a few years this church in Utrecht is used as a showroom for antique furnishing, a conference room and a space for small concerts. Because of these functions a floor was inserted in the church. In the church conversion, the inserted level is adjusted to emphasize the spatial qualities and sight lines of the church. To keep the façade of the church undamaged, no window frames are added to the façade, but the inside of the enormous church is seen as an exterior space. In this way internal patios in the inserted floors are realized to provide the underlying function with day light.”
If you have always dreamed of living in a church, or after checking out this renovation you are now dreaming of living in a church, well, you are in luck because the house is currently for sale.
