Can you say, “macaron heaven?” Our mouth is positively watering just looking at India Mahdavi’s delectable new patisserie, Ladurée, that opened recently at Quai Des Bergues. Located on the shore of Lake Geneva in a wing of the uber-fancy Four Seasons Hotel, the designer has created a confectionary delight of epic proportions, specializing in French macarons in a mélange of coveted colors and flavors.

Luxe French bakery, Ladurée, has been expertly churning out their famous double-decker macarons with much fanfare since 1862. Paris-based designer, Mahdavi, payed homage to the patisserie’s rich heritage, while modernizing the space. Whipping up a sweet combination of sumptuous materials, rich hues, and elegant finishes, Mahdavi brought the upscale bakery into the here-and-now, 145 years after the first Ladurée opened in Paris.

In typical French fashion, the space evokes an elegantly chic, yet playfully unexpected vibe, blending a mix of pastels in an Alice in Wonderland style dreamscape. A true sensory journey, curvilinear lines, fluted counters, and festooned chairs juxtapose linear, marble flooring treated in an angular, black and white diamond pattern. It evokes a certain, je ne sais quoi, if we do say so ourselves.

Mahdavi’s vision is split into three separate, yet synergetic spaces. A chic restaurant appointed with plush pink banquettes, patisserie with sage green walls and marble countertops, and an elegant, emerald green tea-room replete with checkered floors and starry walls. Mahdavi summed up the project perfectly, stating "Ladurée, it is a garden of sweets." We’d have to agree. And we’re definitely going back for seconds.
