Classified Restaurant Opens at Repulse Bay in Hong Kong

Snapshot: Working to redefine Hong Kong’s somewhat generic cafe/bistro formula, local design firm Substance have conjured up an open, seaside-chic space for Classified’s latest Repulse Bay outpost.

Classified is a collection of neighborhood cafés featuring premium artisan cheeses, gourmet coffees, boutique wines and handcrafted breads, Classified brings European-style casual al fresco dining to Hong Kong. The collection of restaurants launched in 2006 with the intention of tooling with food and design to revive street-level interaction and neighborhood sociability. For Classified’s seventh establishment, this mantra became vital to the design.

The creatives at Substance started by opening up the storefront to create an inviting and welcoming space that encourages beach-goers to come in and try some shrimp and chorizo jambalaya. The designers took inspiration from the café’s seaside setting to feature marine-blue tiles, rustic timber flooring and bespoke lobster-pot inspired ceiling lights. Two grand swings hang in the facade of the restaurant, both of which help create that relaxed, social vibe that Classified is known for cultivating.
