Man Cave Remix: Sanctuaries For The Style Minded Man

Look around. Your grimy man cave is filthy, and borderline contaminated. Yes, we're judging. If you love your sanctuary as much as you say you do, it's time for some changes - starting with a shower. Ew. We get it, if your cave is dirty, your female counterpart won't cross into its dangerous boarders, but your cave deserves better and so do you. There are some man cave essentials such as a television/cinema, music paraphernalia, mini-fridge, bar, and gaming of sorts, but the cave is really about you, and your passions. We pulled together the best of modern man caves to lead you and your cave towards the path of greatness.

Architect India Mahdavicreated a man-cave-esque cinema room in a stylized jungle setting. The lush banquettes and circular lounge chairs are plush and luxurious. Everything about the world below is inviting, almost seductive. The walls and columns have been enveloped in a “Peacock Blue” leather with studded frescoes embossed into them depicting a lion, a bird on a branch, a flower, and jungle plants throughout the room.

Brazilian architect Guilherme Torres redesigned this duplex apartment penthouse for a young and single entrepreneur who wanted a contemporary apartment, where he could relax and unwind with his friends (AKA: a man cave). The apartment/cave is outfitted with wood shelves filled with books and collector trinkets. The client has a weekly pool match with his friends so the pool table was a major necessity for the space. The furniture follows a color pallet inspired by the 70’s, with a rug in natural wool, and juxtaposing pink Vitra’s Slow Chairs.

Being a collector requires true passion. If you're cohabiting, it's likely that your significant other does not share the same passion for your weird collections. This is where the man cave will never let you down. The man cave shares all the same passions as you. This space is dark and comfortable with an element of sophistication. Like a setting from Mad Men, the 1950's inspired space has a collection of vintage furniture pieces, and one of a kind artwork on display.

Some people would call building a mini skate park in your basement extreme, we call it awesome. This man cave, designed by LEVEL Architects, was built for a young couple in Tokyo. The client was extra particular about his cave, requesting not only a skate park, but a integrated musical studio nook, and a request for the space to be near an open courtyard to suit his plans for expansions. To top it off, the architect implemented a separate staircase that leads to the rooftop, so the client can soak up some rays when he rises from his slumber. Don't be jealous.

Who said the man cave needed to be dark and dingy? Tact Architecture created a minimalistic lounging space at the Carling Residence. The minimalistic space has a plush rug over polished concrete floors, two televisions, and a massive sectional sofa for the client to entertain friends in a contemporary environment.

This cool cave has an industrial ambiance with an urban edge. With its black and gray color pallet, the space takes some notes from the traditional man cave then reinvents itself for the modern man. The bar is constructed of painted wood fruit boxes with industrial-styled light fixtures hanging above. The tufted sofa is perfect for slouching, and the surrounding open space makes room for band practice and after parties.
