'Stubus' Tree Ring Watch, Moscow

What better represents the movement of time than tree rings? Dendrochronology, commonly known as tree-ring dating is the scientific method of calculating time based on the analysis of patterns of tree rings. Moscow-based design collective Studio Lebedev is the team responsible for creating the eco-chic watch. At first glance, the piece looks like a small cut of a tree trunk, but if you look closer, you'll find the second hand and the hour hand cut into the wood.

The team at Studio Lebedev designed the 'Stubus' Watch to be lightweight and waterproof. The device is banded together with high quality leather and has a circular glass face over the wood rings. When it came to the design, the concept was to create an eye catching piece that stole attention, a conversation starter.

A complicated device, hidden in a simple object.
