Lawrence Argent's Giant 'I Am Here' Panda Sculpture
/Chengdu is champion to one of the rarest animals in the world, the Giant Panda. There are only an estimated 1,500 Pandas, including those living in the wild, 80% of which are located in the Sichuan Province. To celebrate the cuddly creatures, Chengdu IFC commissioned renowned artist Lawrence Argent, to create a superlative sculpture of a giant panda climbing the 120 foot high IFS building in central Chengdu. The geometrically formed bear reaches heights of 50 feet, weighs a sensational 13 tons, and manages to pull off a lovable, cheeky 'I AM HERE' demeanor.
The smirking expression on the Panda's face made I AM HERE a well-fitted titled for the heavy-weighted bear, curiously peeking over IFS' rooftop.
Sichuan Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve, the biggest of its kind in the world, is only 81 miles outside Chengdu. Chengdu has established its self to the world as a renowned breeding and research base for giant pandas, attracting almost 100,000 visitors each year. But, the rescues and conservation of endangered animals like the giant panda, is a long-term and challenging social undertaking. There is much work to do and common concern and support of citizens from every country is needed to succeed.
If you take to heart the work of endangered animal conservation, contribute here.
