Zumbo Patisserie, Sydney

Adriano Zumbo is best known for his croquembouche, macaron tower and V8 cake, and now for his sweet little sweet shop at The Star in Sydney. Adriano’s philosophy about food – it should be fun, textural, appealing to the eye, and above all else taste great. This philosophy was taken to a whole new level when Zumbo partnered up with Luchetti Krelle to design his latest concept store down under.

The store is outfitted in white perforated panels from floor to ceiling, then project leader Rachel Luchetti, filled the shop with colorful goodness by adding a conveyor belt desert train that slides sugary surprises through the space. Patrons can enjoy themselves at the central table, which is topped with turf grass, as the desserts pass them by.

The shop’s factory-like approach to the design becomes clear when colorful steam pipes trail down from the ceiling and deliver desserts in tiny boxes, and a wall of exposed industrial style light bulbs sit in front of a macaron covered wallpaper, the treat that first shot Zumbo to his fame. Another interesting moment in the store happens when Luchetti created a garden colorful display stands, each stand holding one tiny treat.
