Noteworthy: February 2013 Week #2

February 15th, 2013  – We continued to venture off the beaten path this week to shares a plethora of great designs with our readers. The hot topics on KNSTRCT this week were the innovative Stromlinie 75 Concept Car, an unforgettable addition to an apartment in Junqueira, a conquest to find the coolest man caves, and a quick guide towards preparedness with the top disaster relief gadgets. With so many designs on our radar, not all make it onto KNSTRCT in the form of a full feature, but at the end of each week we round up five incredible design happenings to continue our quest to share quality creative news.

Playwithdesign exhibition cool kids swings

PlayWithDesign held an event this week at the Playtime Paris trade show. At the event, 10 designers created 10 exclusive cool creations on the theme of play with the imposed material as only constraint: polyurethane foam. One noteworthy designer, Mathilde Bretillot  created the “Cocoon” swing, a cool and cozy children’s swing.

Ferrari F70 Teaser

 Ferrari will F7o (or F150) hypercar at the Geneva Auto Show next month

Finally, Ferrari is giving us a teaser photograph of their first hypercar in more than a decade. The Ferrari F70 (or F150) is set to make its first debut at the Geneva Auto Show next month. The car is said to boast a V8 putting out more than 800 horsepower, a Formula 1-style KERS hybrid system adding even more power, and the lowest curb weight ever to roll off a Ferrari factory floor. The car will generate “as much downforce as a Formula 1 competitor,” allowing it to “turn into a corner” at blistering speed. Ferrari says, the car will post a faster zero-to-120 mph time than even the Enzo, with 40 percent lower emissions.

Cyclo Tubes recycled rugs carpets upcycled

Cyclo & Tubes upcycled carpet collection by Papilio

In effort to upcycle all those un-used tires and inner tubes out there, Belgian based contemporary carpet company Papilio has introduced their new carpet collection constructed of – wait for it – tires and inner tubes. The manufacturing process behind the Cycle & Tube carpets adds polypropylene and doesn’t requires any harsh chemicals to the finished product. For the Cyclo collection, the inner tubes are split open and used in a woven structure. The Tubes, on the other hand, are used in a method where the tires are cut and then connected according to the traditional tying technique.
