The New Center For Digital Art and Contemporary Music

The Center for Digital Art and Contemporary Music designed by architect Manual Gautrand opened its doors to the Parisian public last month. The historical building was constructed in 1862 acting as a cultural theater house known as Lyrique La Gaîté. Before Gautrand came into the picture, the building went through a 14 year renovation in the 80′s which laid the groundwork for it’s large renovation into the Center for Digital and Contemporary Music. Gautrand had the entire interior removed to make room for her concept of “box within a box”.  There are  three prominent rooms in the building core and are using an advanced sound insulation system completely self-sufficient. The large room seats with expansion of the flexible rows of seating 750 people and is distributed with 46 screens on all four walls equipped. The small hall is designed for 150 people and has a height-adjustable base, which was realized with 21 podiums. In the auditorium are the 130 fixed seats and everything kept in yellow. In addition to the three rooms are the “éclaireuses”the most important design elements of the restructuring. The small mobile units that serve as board books, work and entertainment station, can freely move around the room on wheels and easy to wire with the ceiling. Gautrand’s new design of the space is versatile and interactive making this space a perfect fit for its visitors who are reactive to digital arts and music
