When we got to the corner of Stanton and Essex the glowing bulbs that make up the letters Beauty & Essex could not be missed, and straight from a vintage zombie flick, one can’t help but throw their arms up vertically and walk towards it. The nightlife darlings who created Stanton Social five years ago have given birth to a new prodigy child called Beauty & Essex and Knstrct was delighted to check it out.

The facade of the lounge is a well curated modern day pawn shop. For the regular street walkers, if you do not have anything to pawn off, you don’t belong here. Only the people who have heard the buzz about what is actually behind the walls of the pawn shop will get to bear witness to what the award winning design firm AvrKo has whipped up.

Beauty & Essex is housed in the retired century old M. Katz & Sons Furniture store on the streets of the Lower East Side, and once you get passed the unassuming pawn shop you enter into a world quite unfamiliar to the raw and gritty Lower East Side vibe. At the grand foyer guests are greeted with a luxurious circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier which makes you feel like you are six years old again, with your parents at a fancy place, hands in your pocket, ‘inside voices, no touching’. The dining room on the first floor extends back, and feels like a scene from a slightly less refined Great Gatsby party.

The lounge has four dining rooms, two bars, a lounge, and a woman’s bathroom complete with a saloon including a luxurious sofa, vintage perfume bottles, and a private bartender offering complementary bubbly!!Upstairs is dressed in carved wood panels, an enormous skylight, and a ceiling covered in draped pearls.

We New York’s latest nightlife baby, Beauty & Essex, which is now housed in the retired century old M. Katz & Sons Furniture store on the streets of the Lower East Side. The space has been totally revamped by a team of design darlings from the award winning firm AvroKo.
